💨 Abstract
A 50-year-old man from Bellville, Ferdinand Fortuin, made hoax bomb calls to avoid work after a night of heavy drinking. He targeted the Department of Water and Sanitation, Transnet offices, and a taxi rank, causing widespread panic and evacuations. Fortuin, convicted under terrorism and explosives laws, was sentenced to five years in prison, reduced from a minimum of 15 years due to his guilty plea and remorse.
