đź’¨ Abstract
On 24 July, Ottery firefighters in Cape Town unexpectedly assisted in the birth of a baby boy after an expectant mother arrived at their station with abdominal pains. Led by Platoon Commander Amesha Bachan, they delivered a healthy baby named Lagen within an hour. Both mother and child were later transported to a medical facility. Alderman JP Smith praised the firefighters' swift actions and composure, noting that while they are trained for emergencies, acting as midwives is rare.
