💨 Abstract

Navanethem "Navi" Pillay, a South African jurist and human rights advocate, was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her extensive work in promoting human rights, international justice, and the rule of law. Born in Durban during apartheid, Pillay overcame racial discrimination to become the first woman to establish a law practice in Natal and the first Black woman appointed as a judge to South Africa’s High Court.
