💨 Abstract
Since Ireland ended visa-free access for South Africans nearly a year ago, it has faced an overwhelming surge in visa applications, causing significant delays. This policy change was motivated by a 100% increase in South African asylum claims. Despite the frustration caused by prolonged processing times, often exceeding three months, Ireland is scaling up resources to address the issue. The government acknowledged underestimating the demand and is working to streamline processes, particularly for skilled professionals.
