💨 Abstract

The City of Johannesburg has introduced smart card trading permits for street vendors in the CBD, aiming to formalize and regulate informal trading. Mayor Dada Morero and MMC Nomoya Mnisi launched the initiative, calling it a "groundbreaking milestone." Vendors must register with ID or passport, and the first permits are free, while renewals and replacements will incur costs. Permit holders will pay stall rent to the city.
