💨 Abstract
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) in South Africa has uncovered millions of rands lost to corruption in the water sector, including inflated contracts and payments for uncompleted work. The SIU and the Department of Water and Sanitation launched the Water Sector Anti-Corruption Forum to combat this issue. So far, the SIU has recovered R569 million, prevented potential losses of R717 million, and referred 270 cases for prosecution.
