đź’¨ Abstract
The Karoo's spekboom restoration is gaining global recognition and momentum, backed by the United Nations and carbon funding. The UNEP has named South Africa's thicket restoration a World Restoration Flagship, boosting confidence in ongoing projects. Spekboom's ability to absorb carbon has attracted significant private investment, with about $75 million raised. The initiative is also creating jobs in rural areas, though there are concerns about potential overplanting.
