💨 Abstract
Two Umhlanga beaches, Bronze Beach and Umhlanga Main Beach, have been closed due to a critical pump failure caused by misuse of the sewer system. The eThekwini Municipality reported that the failure was due to residents improperly disposing of waste, leading to blockages in the Ohlange Wastewater Pump Station. Emergency teams are working to clear the blockages and stabilize wastewater flows. Despite this setback, most of Durban's beaches meet national safety standards.
