💨 Abstract
Starlink, owned by Elon Musk, plans a R2 billion investment in South Africa to facilitate its entry despite regulatory hurdles related to Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) laws. The investment aims to develop infrastructure for South Africa and the SADC region. Starlink proposes using South African companies for infrastructure needs to comply with local conditions without giving up equity. This move follows Musk's criticism of BEE laws and the government's consideration of policy revisions.
