💨 Abstract
Former "EastEnders" star Kara Tointon announced her decision to have a double mastectomy due to a high risk of breast and ovarian cancer from carrying the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes. This discovery led her to undergo preventative surgeries, including a double mastectomy and the removal of her fallopian tubes and ovaries. These genes, when mutated, significantly increase the risk of developing these cancers, especially in women with a family history of related conditions.
