💨 Abstract
Two police officers, PC Stephen Smith and PC Rachel Comotto, are accused of assaulting 92-year-old amputee Donald Burgess in a care home. Burgess, who had dementia and multiple health conditions, was sitting in his wheelchair with a specially adapted butter knife. The officers used pepper spray and a Taser on him, which the prosecution described as "unjustified and unlawful." Burgess died 22 days later after contracting Covid. The officers deny the charges.
