A Chicago police officer, Krystal Rivera, 36, died after being unintentionally shot by a colleague during a confrontation with armed suspects. Rivera, a mother of one, was part of a patrol that pursued a suspect into an apartment. When another suspect pointed a rifle, an officer fired, accidentally hitting Rivera. She was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries. Rivera had been in the police force for four years and was described as a courageous and compassionate officer.
