💨 Abstract
A giant Subalpine Woolly Rat (*Mallomys istapantap*), one of the world's largest murine rodents, has been photographed and filmed for the first time in the mountains of New Guinea. This elusive, nocturnal species, weighing up to 2 kg and measuring 85 cm, had not been sighted in three decades. František Vejmělka, a Czech doctoral candidate, documented the rat during a six-month expedition, assisted by local tribes.
