💨 Abstract
A study published in the journal Science Advances found that clownfish in Papua New Guinea shrink in size during heat waves to increase their survival odds. These heat waves, intensified by climate change, bleach sea anemones which clownfish inhabit. Researchers discovered that 101 out of 134 clownfish shrank during a 2023 heat wave. Although the method of size reduction is unknown, the downsizing might help fish conserve energy.
