💨 Abstract

A recent report by the Environmental Justice Foundation highlights that overfishing by foreign vessels, mainly from Spain and China, is causing a collapse of 57% of fish stocks in Senegal. This severe depletion, exacerbated by destructive fishing methods, has led to significant income loss among local fishermen, prompting increased irregular migration to Spain. The Atlantic route to the Canary Islands is among the deadliest, with thousands of migrants risking their lives annually.
