💨 Abstract

In Brazil's Amazon, a young manatee named Bacuri is being rehabilitated by three institutions to help the endangered species recover from overhunting and climate change. Bacuri was rescued and named after the local community that found him. He is being cared for at the Emilio Goeldi Museum's research center in the Caxiuana National Forest, with education and outreach to nearby communities.
