💨 Abstract

In the Dominican Republic, conservationists are using assisted reproduction techniques to combat the decline of coral reefs, which are crucial for coastal protection and marine life. Climate change, overfishing, and habitat loss have severely degraded these reefs, making natural reproduction difficult. Fundemar, a marine conservation organization, collects coral eggs and sperm to create new individuals, increasing genetic diversity and resilience. While this effort shows promise, experts stress that addressing climate change is essential for long-term coral survival.
