💨 Abstract
Former U.S. Capitol Police Sgt. Aquilino Gonell criticized a $5 million settlement for the family of Ashli Babbitt, shot during the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot. Gonell, who was injured that day, called the settlement a betrayal from the Trump administration, which he accused of pardoning rioters and claiming support for law enforcement. The officer who shot Babbitt was cleared of wrongdoing.
