💨 Abstract

On August 17, 2025, D.C. Water reported an unexpected sewer overflow that released untreated wastewater into the Anacostia River. The incident, estimated at 6,200 gallons, occurred due to a main failure directing sewage to the Anacostia Pumping Station. Officials are advising residents and pets to avoid contact with the river until it is deemed safe.
