💨 Abstract

The National Park Service plans to restore and reinstall a Confederate statue of Albert Pike in D.C.'s Judiciary Square, following executive orders to "beautify" the capital and reinstate pre-existing statues. The statue was destroyed in 2020 during George Floyd protests. Critics argue the statue honors a Confederate leader who supported slavery, while supporters say it recognizes Pike's postwar contributions to Freemasonry.
