đź’¨ Abstract

On July 17, 2025, an uncontrolled wildfire near Madrid, Spain, burned approximately 3,000 hectares, sending thick smoke over the capital. The fire started in Mentrida, about 30 miles southwest. Authorities advised residents to stay indoors due to extreme heat and high fire risk. Europe, warming faster than global averages, faces increased wildfire threats due to climate change, particularly in southeastern regions.
