The Associated Press announced that Paul Azinger will receive the Payne Stewart Award for his character, sportsmanship, and commitment to charity. This honor recognizes Azinger's close friend, Payne Stewart who died in 1999. The Southern Company sponsors the award which provides monetary donations supporting Azinger’s charity. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan applauded Azinger's values and charitable work, aligning them with those of Stewart.
