đź’¨ Abstract
The U.S. Space Force plans to transfer 578 Air National Guard members from six states and headquarters to bolster its ranks. Governors and the National Governors Association oppose this, arguing it infringes on their control over state units. Congress's 2025 defense bill mandated these transfers, allowing members to choose between retraining in another specialty or joining the Space Force while staying in their home state. The affected personnel total 578 across six states.
