💨 Abstract

An Annapolis man is recovering after contracting Aeromonas hydrophila, a "flesh-eating bacteria," from a cut while handling a bait trap in waters near the Chesapeake Bay. The bacteria, common in fresh and brackish waters, can cause severe infections in immunocompromised individuals. Amesh Adalja of Johns Hopkins emphasizes the importance of keeping open wounds away from water and seeking immediate medical attention if signs of infection appear.
