💨 Abstract
A new study published in PLOS Medicine identifies biological markers in blood and urine that can indicate the consumption of ultraprocessed foods, which make up nearly 60% of the American diet. Led by Erikka Loftfield of the National Cancer Institute, the research found 28 blood and up to 33 urine markers that reliably predict ultraprocessed food intake. These markers could help understand the health impacts of ultraprocessed foods, which are linked to various health problems.
