💨 Abstract
There is currently a pressing issue affecting patients with experimental neural implants, such as those used to treat severe depression, quadriplegia, and other conditions. These devices often require maintenance, battery replacements, and surgeries, which can be costly. Insurance typically covers approved devices but not experimental ones, leaving patients in financial distress. A Harvard-led project aimed to address these challenges by creating partnerships in the implant field, but its progress was halted by the cancellation of National Institutes of Health grants.
