💨 Abstract
On St. Helena Island, SC, Minnie “Gracie” Gadson and other elderly artists and scholars are working to preserve Gullah spirituals and Gullah Geechee culture. These songs, passed down from enslaved ancestors, are a vital part of African American heritage. Gullah culture, including its language and traditions, blends West African roots with American experiences.
