💨 Abstract
The D.C. area, under a drought watch for nearly a year, has received significant rainfall recently, but experts warn it's not enough to end the drought. Only about 35% of rainfall reaches water bodies, and even less replenishes groundwater. The region's probability of needing to draw down reservoir reserves has decreased slightly due to recent rains. Forecasts predict above-average rainfall through August, which could move the area out of drought conditions. However, experts advise continued water conservation.
