đź’¨ Abstract
An audit in Maryland revealed that at least 36 deaths in police custody were wrongly classified and should have been considered homicides. This finding followed an examination of autopsies performed by former state medical examiner Dr. David Fowler, who faced criticism for his testimony in George Floyd's case. Fowler's tenure, from 2002 to 2019, saw controversies over other high-profile deaths, including those of Anton Black and Freddie Gray.
