💨 Abstract
Maryland's State Board of Education has updated math standards for the first time since 2013 to improve student performance. Despite previous efforts to raise standards, student proficiency has declined, with 46% of eighth graders now below basic level. The new standards include introducing probability by fourth grade and aim to foster a positive attitude towards math. These changes will take effect in the 2026-27 school year, with a focus on educating parents about the updates.
