💨 Abstract
Ahead of the new school year, Maryland's top education officials have warned local school boards to adhere to state laws. This comes after disputes in Calvert and Somerset counties regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. Calvert County's school board removed an anti-racism resolution and repealed its antiracism policy, sparking protests from community members. Somerset County attempted to remove its Black superintendent, leading to state intervention that reinstated her.
