💨 Abstract
Montgomery County, Maryland, is preparing for a surge in spotted lanternflies, invasive insects from Southeast Asia. First spotted in Maryland in 2018, they reached Montgomery County by 2022. Though they don't sting, bite, or harm most trees, they produce a sticky mess and can hitch rides on vehicles. Residents are urged to destroy egg masses found on surfaces.
