đź’¨ Abstract
The Department of Homeland Security requested $50 million to purchase a new long-range Gulfstream jet, replacing an aging one used by Secretary Kristi Noem and top Coast Guard officials. This proposal, revealed during a House appropriations subcommittee meeting, faced criticism from Democratic Rep. Lauren Underwood, who argued for investing in national security and improving conditions for the Coast Guard rather than luxury travel. The current jet, over 20 years old, is deemed obsolete and unsafe by officials.
