On May 13, 2025, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka briefly visited the federal immigration detention center where he was previously arrested for trespassing. Baraka, who opposes the facility and President Trump’s immigration policies, was blocked from entering. He faces a court hearing on Thursday, having denied the trespassing charge. Earlier, he attempted to join Congress members entering the facility, leading to his arrest. He maintains he was not on the property.
