💨 Abstract
The U.S. Treasury Department has announced it will stop minting the one-cent coin by early 2025 but the penny will remain legal tender. Despite the phase-out, retailers like convenience stores and national chains will continue accepting and using pennies for cash transactions. Eventually, rounding to the nearest nickel may occur as the supply diminishes. Electronic transactions will remain precise to the penny.
