💨 Abstract
The U.S. envoy, Steve Witkoff, is hopeful about a deal to pause the Israel-Hamas war and release hostages. A proposed 60-day ceasefire, in exchange for hostage releases and prisoner swaps, has been tentatively agreed upon by Hamas but rejected by Israel. Hamas seeks a lasting ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal, while Israel insists on a temporary pause and full control over Gaza, with plans for the voluntary emigration of its population.
