💨 Abstract
Heavy rain and a rockslide have again closed a section of Interstate 40 in the Great Smoky Mountains near mile marker 450 in Tennessee. This area, part of a 12-mile stretch damaged by flooding from Hurricane Helene, was temporarily repaired in March to allow one lane in each direction. Repairs involve driving steel rods into bedrock and spraying concrete to stabilize the cliff face, a process expected to take years.
