New York City is using ranked choice voting in its Democratic mayoral primary. Here’s how it works -
💨 Abstract
New York City's Democratic mayoral primary election uses ranked choice voting, allowing voters to rank up to five candidates. If no candidate receives over 50% of first-choice votes, lower-ranked choices are distributed in a series of rounds until a winner emerges. This system aims to ensure broader support and reduce "wasted" votes. Preliminary results will start coming in on July 1, with the official result certified by July 15.
