💨 Abstract
Grant Hardin, nicknamed the “Devil in the Ozarks,” was recaptured after a two-week search near the prison he escaped from and transferred to the Varner SuperMax prison in Arkansas. Hardin, a former police chief convicted of murder and rape, evaded capture in the rugged, flood-impacted terrain. His escape disrupted the lives of witnesses and victims, who welcomed his recapture. Authorities are investigating the lapses that enabled his escape.
