A new COVID-19 variant, called "razor blade throat" or NB.1.8.1 (Nimbus), causes severe sore throats. Identified in regions like the UK and India, it is spreading in eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia, and Western Pacific. Currently, there's no indication it's more severe than other variants. The WHO considers the global public health risk low and existing vaccines should remain effective. While it was also detected in the U.S.,
