💨 Abstract
Flooding in the U.S. has caused an average of over 125 deaths per year in recent decades, with flash floods being the leading storm-related killer. In 2025, Texas Hill Country experienced devastating flash floods, resulting in at least 32 deaths. Hurricane Helene in 2024 was the deadliest hurricane since Katrina, causing 250 deaths, primarily from inland flooding.
