💨 Abstract
After shepherding a contentious bill banning states from regulating AI for a decade through Congress, the White House faced a strong opposition within the Republican Party. Republican conservatives quickly began mobilising to stop the bill, coming under the pressure of state and lobbyist groups. Conservative divisions mobilised the issue with some seeing states as necessary protectors of their citizens against AI. After a fierce debate, supporters of the bill conceded, with the Senate voting to strike down the provision.
