💨 Abstract

In central Texas, a slow-moving storm dropped over 12 inches of rain, leading to fatal flash floods early Friday. The area, prone to flash floods, experienced a particularly severe storm during the vulnerable overnight hours, resulting in over two dozen deaths and numerous rescues. Meteorologists link the intense rainfall to a moisture-rich atmosphere exacerbated by climate change, which holds more moisture and intensifies rain events. Recent weeks saw similar deadly flash floods in Texas and West Virginia.
