💨 Abstract
Scientists from University of Miami, the Florida Aquarium, and Tela Coral in Honduras are collaborating to transplant crossbred coral fragments onto a reef off Miami's coastline, which was devastated by coral bleaching in 2023. The goal is to introduce diversity from the Caribbean to help Florida's reefs survive increasing ocean temperatures due to climate change. They are transplanting "baby" Elkhorn corals, bred from parents from Florida and Honduras, onto Miami's reef.
