💨 Abstract
The U.S. Supreme Court will review cases involving state restrictions on transgender students joining school sports teams. This follows their recent upholding of a ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth. The cases involve Idaho and West Virginia, where lower courts ruled in favor of transgender athletes. Over two dozen states have laws barring transgender girls from certain sports, citing fairness for women and girls. The University of Pennsylvania recently modified records set by transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, apologizing to female athletes.
