💨 Abstract

A powerful 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia's coast triggered a tsunami affecting the Kuril Islands, Hokkaido, and alerts in Hawaii, the U.S. West Coast, Chile, Japan, the Solomon Islands, Ecuador, and the Philippines. Waves up to 3 meters were expected in some areas. Japan's nuclear plants and the Fukushima Daiichi site have taken precautions. Aftershocks are possible for up to a month.
