💨 Abstract
James Lovell, the commander of Apollo 13 who oversaw a failed moon mission turned into a heroic rescue, died at 97. A Navy veteran and one of NASA's most-experienced astronauts, Lovell flew four missions, including Apollo 8, which first left Earth's orbit and circled the moon.
