💨 Abstract
Former Arkansas prison inmate Grant Hardin, known as the "Devil in the Ozarks," spent months planning his escape using lax kitchen security to gather supplies. He created a fake law enforcement uniform and walked out of Calico Rock Prison. Hardin was captured nearby and survived on smuggled food and foraged items. The internal review of his escape led to firings and suspensions of prison staff. Hardin's escape exposed systemic issues and led to changes in prison security protocols.
