💨 Abstract
A former corrections officer, Christopher Walrath, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the death of Black inmate Robert Brooks. Brooks was beaten by a group of guards at the Marcy Correctional Facility in New York, an event captured on bodycam videos. Walrath pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter. Brooks, who was serving a sentence for assault, was reportedly brutalized during the incident.
