💨 Abstract
A U.S. district judge denied a request to halt the transfer of land in Arizona for a copper mining project, despite objections from a Native American tribe and environmentalists. The judge ruled that Congress and the president had weighed the benefits and hardships, and thus the court must accept their decision. The San Carlos Apache Tribe and other plaintiffs are appealing, arguing that the environmental review was inadequate and that the value of the copper deposits was not properly considered.
